This imposing bird is the African spotted eagle owl. Though fierce in appearance it is actually one of the smaller members of the eagle owl family. Versatile in hunting skills it will take a wide variety of prey from small mammals to bats and birds in flight and even insects ....with some individuals eating insects almost exclusively. They are often seen even hunting around street lights at night.
